New SFC - 'Super Fast Cycling'

Friday the 21st of June 6PM and the scene was set for what we believed was going to be a pleasant cycle around the Embankment in Nottingham as the four strong team of Alex Brien (Reach Separations), Michael Cooke (Sygnature Discovery), Carlos Fernadez-Lence (Pharminox) and Simon Goddard (Renasci) took part in the Experian Cycle live corporate relay representing BioCity Nottingham.

This was a one mile time trial circuit and the winning team was the first to complete 18 laps of the course. As the gun went for the start the sun was shining, the crowds were cheering and all round a great atmosphere. After the first few laps of the course we were sitting in second place. Even in front of Olympic silver medallist Brian Steele. A couple of swift change overs and we were holding our own.

As the laps ticked on past, it was clear that a few of these teams may not have been corporate and some ringers had been drafted in. By this point we were in 4th place a little way behind the podium but a long way in front of the 5th place team.

In the final three laps and a very quick pace we had almost put in the work to snatch 3rd place on the line. Unfortunately we missed out by 0.1 of a second!! A fantastic effort from the team and something to be very proud of. Training kicked off for next year’s event with a gentle 50 mile charity bike ride around the Nottinghamshire countryside on the Sunday, finishing off a weekend of cycling in Notts.
Bring on the next event which is the three peaks challenge in 7 days time.
